April 2018: 39th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessinos of the Society of Behavioral Medicine

Dr. Rodney Joseph (and Dr. Colleen Keller) presented his posters titled Development of Smart Walk: a culturally relevant smart-phone based physical activity program for African American women and presented a paper presentation titled Physical activity and psychosocial outcomes from a pilot randomized trial of an IVR-supported intervention in the Deep South.


Dr. Erica Soltero presented a paper titled Assessing activity across the 24-hour day in obese Latino youth at risk for diabetes, presented a course titled Physical activity and health equity SIGs present: strategies for 'extending our reach' and engaging hard to reach populations and communities in research.

Dr. Rebecca E. Lee and Dr. Erica Soltero participated in a panel discussion titled Physical activity and health equity SIGs present: can health equity and social justice ideals be achieved in translational research? Reaching people experiencing marginalization. Dr Soltero was a recipient of the Meritorious Student Award.








Jake Szeszulski was a recipient of the Meritorious Student Award for his abstract titled Comparison of Single and Dual Frequency BIA with Skinfold Calipers for Measurement of Body Composition in Hispanic Women.


April 2018: 51st Annual Western Institute of Nursing Conference

Dr. Elizabeth Reifsnider presented three posters titled: 

Reducing Latino child obesity, especially among low income and immigrant populations

Breastfeeding and obesity in low-income Mexican-American women and infants

Factors associated with Chinese college students' intention to receive HPV vaccine

Dr. Reifsnider was also inducted into the Western Institute of Nursing 

PhD student Elizabeth Lorenzo presented her poster titled Linking active transportation and walkability to cardiometabolic risk factors among Hispanic mothers.

Dr. Linda Larkey presented her poster titled Measuring the effects of martial arts and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.


March 2018: Dr. Felipe Castro and Tara Bautista presented Culturally-relevant adaptations of type 2 diabetes self-care for Latinos/as at the 14th Annual; Cesar E. Chavez Health Conference in Phoenix, AZ


November 2017: Fall Graduate Student Poster Contest on the ASU Tempe Campus in the Memorial Union

Elizabeth Lorenzo presented her poster abstract titled Linking Active Transportation Use and Neighborhood Walkability to Cardiometabolic Risk Factors Among Hispanic Mothers. 


November 2017: American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo

Dr. Elizabeth Reifsnider presented her Building a Statewide Network for Care Coordination for Children with Special Healthcare Needs. 

Her posters, titled Effect of community health worker home visits on breastfeeding among low-income Latinas and From Promotora to research partner: how is that done? were also presented.


2017 The 17th Annual International Conference of The National Hispanic Science Network in Phoenix, AZ (October)

Dr. Gabe Shaibi presented ideas for how scientists can partner with community agencies to close the health disparities gap and Dr. Felipe González Castro served as the moderator for the scientific panel discussion. 

ASU CONHI PhD students Tara Bautista and Bin Suh, recent CONHI graduate Jamie Karch, BSN, and ASU undergraduate Christopher Dilli presented three posters and an oral presentation. 





2017 Obesity Week in Washington, DC (October)

Dr. Erica Soltero presented her Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Efficacy of a Community-based, Family-focused Diabetes Prevention Program for Latino Youth research poster.

 Dr. Gabe Shaibi presented a scientific session titled Effects of a Community-Based Lifestyle Intervention for Latino Adolescents With Obesity


2017 Dr. Elizabeth Reifsnider attended the Engage for Equity workshop in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico, Center for Participatory Research
